Cuixart Lab: The Cuixartíada

The artistic education is one of the eight areas of knowledge that make up the education curriculum, as stated in DECREE 142/2007, of 26 June, which establishes the organisation of education teachings.

Artistic and cultural competence, together with linguistic and audiovisual communication, shape communicative competence, which is defined as transversal.

As stated in the cited decree, “Artistic and cultural competence is a necessary complement to communicative competence and, as such, is crucial for the development of critical and supportive citizenship in the new society of the 21st century.” This competence involves “knowing, understanding, appreciating, and critically valuing different cultural and artistic expressions,” whether traditional or not, using them as a source of enrichment and enjoyment, and considering them as part of the heritage of peoples. Furthermore, it is “knowing how to create with words, with the body itself, with all kinds of materials, supports, and technological tools, both individually and collectively,” the representations and analysis of reality that facilitate a person's ability to live and coexist in society.

Although it can be particularly related to areas of artistic education, and some fields of social sciences or literature, it is an interdisciplinary competence that should be taken into account and developed in activities across all areas and in the life of the school.

THE CUIXARTIADA is an artistic experience aimed at children and teaching teams from primary, secondary, and high schools through a guided tour by the Cuixart Foundation.
The Cuixartiada is an innovative and immersive educational experience that brings students closer to abstract art, following the techniques and creative vision of Modest Cuixart, one of the most important artists of the Catalan avant-garde. Through this activity, participants will be able to learn about and interpret Cuixart's works, interact with artistic materials, and create their own collective artwork, while enhancing active learning and critical reflection on art and science as creative engines.
